FAQ

Are you currently accepting submissions?

Unfortunately, due to a heavy workload, I am unable to accept new submissions at this time.

What services do you provide?

There are two levels of review: comprehensive and beta-read.

A comprehensive review includes a full line edit of your submission, covering everything from grammar and word-choice to characterisation and plot.

Suggested edits, general comments, and noteworthy questions will be inserted as they arise, as well as overall comments supplied at the end.

Along with these edits and comments, you are guaranteed a response to these questions:

  • What were your thoughts on the opening?

  • What were your thoughts on the ending?

  • How do you feel about the setting?/Are the descriptions easy to visualise?

  • Were there any sections that were confusing or frustrating to read?

You may send a list of up to thirty additional questions of your own choosing.

Some examples:

  • What were your thoughts on [CHARACTER NAME]?

  • What was your reaction to [SPECIFIC PLOT DEVELOPMENT]?

  • What do you think of the relationship between [CHARACTER AND SOMEONE/SOMETHING]?

  • What were your thoughts on [PARTICULAR SCENE]?

Responses may vary in length, but all will be carefully considered and honest.

A beta-read review does not include any edits. The purpose of this particular review is to provide you with a better understanding of reader experience, and is recommended for near-final to final drafts. A beta-read review will report on the overall feel of your manuscript, exploring how audiences might react to various elements such as characterisation, setting, plot twists and style.

You may ask up to thirty beta-read questions (see examples above) for submissions under 100,000 words, and up to fifty beta-read questions for submissions over 100,000 words.

This particular review approaches your work as though it were being presented to its intended audience in its final form. If you do not believe your work to be near this stage, I strongly recommend a comprehensive review.

How long does it take?

Depending on the length of your submission and your position in the queue, feedback could take anywhere from a few days to a few months. A more precise timeframe will be provided to you alongside the free quote after you submit your first inquiry.

You can do this through the contact page.

How much does it cost?

Once I receive a message outlining the specifics of your writing (see the contact page for more details), your submission will be assessed and I’ll send you a free quote.

This quote will depend on several factors, including the word count of your submission and the level of editing required.

I’m passionate about helping writers, and keep my prices as affordable as possible.

What genres do you accept?

I consider all submissions that are not poetry or screenplays. My reading tastes encompass a broad range of both fiction and non-fiction genres, from epic fantasy and quirky sci-fi all the way through to gritty crime novels, heartfelt memoirs, and YA tales of adventure and self-discovery.

If I don’t believe myself to be a good match for your writing, I’ll let you know in my reply to your inquiry.

  • “You helped me immensely with my work and I wouldn’t have grown so much without your feedback. I’ve begun the next draft and your feedback is the feedback I incorporate first because of how thorough you are! I felt like when you said something was confusing or needed work, it made sense. It wasn’t sugar-coated advice, there was substantial information behind it, and you delivered the information without being harsh. When you said something was good, I felt very proud because I knew I had earned it, and it was indicative that other readers would enjoy it as well.”
